Elemen kalimat tidak hanya terbatas pada satu kata saja. Sebuah elemen kalimat bisa terdiri dari beberapa kata. Jika suatu elemen kalimat terdiri dari dua kata atau lebih, maka disebut dengan phrase atau frasa.
Elemen Tunggal
Elemen tunggal adalah elemen yang hanya terdiri satu kata saja
Contoh :
- They are students.
- Those are pencils.
- These are books.
- I eat bread.
- She drink water.
Frase
Frase merupakan sebuah elemen kalimat yang terdiri dari beberapa kata. Frase bisa disusun oleh beberapa elemen yang sejenis atau dari elemen yang berbeda-beda.
Contoh :
- I have a cat.
- I have a tree house.
- My brother likes to hang out on coffee house.
- I saw a beautiful woman on the station.
- She is a very kind mother.
- Andrew is a stubborn student.
- My sister is doing her homework.
- My uncle do not know about the accident.
- They are looking for their missing friend.
- My family always vacation every holiday.
- Most of my books are borrowed by my brother.
- I will pickup my daughter on her school.
- We can find dolphins on the sea.
- Take the TV remote on the table.
Frase yang terdiri dari beberapa elemen, penyusunnya dibagi menjadi 2 jenis yaitu main word dan modifier.
Main Word
Main word merupakan elemen/kata utama dari frase tersebut.
Modifier
Sedangkan modifier adalah merupakan elemen yang “memodif” main word sehingga memberikan informasi atau ciri khusus dari main word.

Macam-Macam Frase
Macam frase hampir sama seperti macam elemen kalimat. Nama frase diambil sesuai dengan jenis elemen pada main word-nya. Jika main word pada frase adalah noun, maka jenisnya adalah noun phrase. Jika main word-nya adalah adjective, makan menjadi adjective phrase.
