Ketika sebuah noun memiliki attributive adjective lebih dari satu, ada urutan yang pasti setiap jenis adjectives.

  • a / nice / new / blue / coat
Urutan adjective sangat penting karena berhubungan dengan maknanya. Berikut ini beberapa jenis kategori adjective
  • article : a, an, the
  • opinion : nice, wonderful, excellent, lovely, terrible, awful
  • size : large, small, long, short, tall
  • quality : clear, busy, famous, important, quiet
  • age : old, new
  • shape : round, square, fat, thin, wide, narrow
  • colour : red, white, blue, green
  • participle form : covered, furnished, broken, running, missing
  • origin : British, Italian, American
  • Material : brick, paper, plastic, wooden
  • type : human, chemical, domestic, electronic, money
  • purpose : alarm, tennis, walking,
bentuk phrase dari beberapa adjective harus urut sesuai urutan tersebut :

Namun dalam adjective tertentu dapat tidak sesuai urutan tersebut. Jika terdapat 2 adjective atau lebih, maka adjective yang memiliki kata lebih pendek diletakkan di depan
  • a big horrible building ; bukan a horrible big building
Untuk lebih mudahnya, meskipun suatu noun memiliki beberapa adjective, adjective yang diletakan sebelum noun adalah adjective yang utama (menjelaskan karakteristik atau berhubungan langsung)
  • two excellent public tennis courts
dalam contoh tersebut, adjective yang berhubungan langsung adalah “tennis”, sedangkan excellent hanyalah adjective opini.
